General
Q&A

Who is McKinney Baseball Association (MBA)?

MBA was established "for the kids" in 1955. MBA operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit charity and under the authority of the MBA Board of Directors. It is the Board's intention for all involved in the MBA to have an enjoyable season. This league is for the sole benefit of the players involved. We feel obligated not only to teach the fundamentals of baseball, but to also instill qualities, which these young people will use throughout their lives such as: good sportsmanship & teamwork, good attitude towards winning as well as losing, competitiveness among their peers, responsibilities to self and others, and rewards of extra effort.

Do I have to live in McKinney to play in MBA?

No. MBA is open for all boys and girls ages 4-14. There is an additional non-resident fee of $12.50 for players that live outside the City of McKinney and this is an extra charge imposed by the City of McKinney. This fee will be collected during the online registration process. The McKinney ISD school zones do not have any bearing on the non-resident fee

Q&A

How do I register my child for MBA?

You can start the registration process online by clicking the "Registration Now Open" banner at the top of the website. If you have played in MBA before, you will need to login with your previously created account. If this is your first time registering with MBA, you will need to click the "Create an Account" link to get started. How do I know what division to register my child for?

MBA divisions are based on the League Age of the player. You can visit our Age Determination page for detailed information for each division including the description, fundamental skills taught by coach, and the dates to determine League Age.

How do I determine my child's League Age?

MBA starts its new league year each Fall season, and the Spring season ends it. The Fall season is considered a developmental season to prepare for the Spring season. The player's league age is determined by their age on or before April 30th for the entire league year. This means that the player’s age on April 30, 2016 will be the player's league age for both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 seasons.

What forms of payment do you accept?

MBA accepts checks and all major credit cards. Credit cards will only be accepted through the online payment process during registration. To pay by check, please follow the process detailed online when "Pay by Check" is chosen. Please include your order # on the check.

If my child decides not to play in MBA, can I get a refund?

MBA will refund a players registration fee minus a $25.00 administrative fee up until two weeks prior to the start of the season. Once this date has passed –there will be no refunds.

If my child plays on a "Select" team outside of MBA, can my child play in MBA?

MBA does allow "Select" teams and players to play within the organization. However, in an attempt to keep competition fair within our divisions, criteria has been set to establish the proper division and subdivision a select team/player must play in. Please reference the MBA Policies and Procedures, Section V, for compete details regarding select player determination and division placement.

Can I make a friend or specific team/coach request?

During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to request a certain team or coach. You can also utilize the comments section to request to play with a certain friend. MBA will try to accommodate all requests, however given the number of requests for some teams, requests are not guaranteed.

Can I make a request for a team who practices on certain days?

Unfortunately, we do not assign team practice times or finalize our game schedule until after teams are formed. There is no way to know this information ahead of time. We encourage all families to work with their coaches regarding practice times.

What type of equipment will my player need?

MBA provides all players with a jersey and hat that is included with registration. Teams are provided with catching gear and helmets. Families will need to purchase baseball pants, belt, socks, cleats, glove, and protective gear for catchers( 7u+ boys/girls). Bats can also be purchased but many players share bats on a team. The coach will inform players on the color pants, belt, and socks to purchase.

Team Information
Q&A

How are teams formed?

Teams are created using a dual approach. A head coach is allowed to protect players (as many as they would like) on his/her roster, including his/her child. The remainder of the team is filled through the league's blind draft and is balanced by age within a division if possible. T-ball players are assigned to teams based on neighborhood or school; however, a T-ball coach can create and protect their entire team.

How many players are placed on a team?

Our goal is to have no more than 12 players on a team to maximize participation and development opportunities. However, all teams are based on the availability of coaches and the interest level of players. Some teams may have more or less than 12 players, but the goal is to keep it at 12.

What equipment is provided to the team?

The coach of each team will be issued equipment for use during the season. The equipment consists of first aid kit, catchers gear and glove (for 7u and older divisions), batting helmets, and a batting tee(for Tee Ball only). Players must provide their own glove, bat, and any other equipment. MBA will provide game baseballs to the coaches prior to the first game.

How often are practices?

Practices are scheduled by the individual coaches. MBA provides each team one reserved practice field a week. Additional practices may be called by the coach if fields are available.
